Andrew has covered a rich variety of events in his role as editor, producer, intern, and reporter for national, local, and campus journalism outlets.
Some of his articles include coverage of President Barack Obama, the U.S. Congress, visits by foreign heads of state, marches on Washington, federal legislation, national trends, earmarks, NASA, investigative articles, and breaking news.
He’s worked for both print and online publications while also gaining significant experience in broadcast journalism.
Andrew is a senior at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. At The Beacon, Wilkes’ award-winning student newspaper, Andrew is serving as the online editor. He served as The Beacon’s editor-in-chief, managing editor, news editor, and assistant news editor in the past. Andrew was also a producer, assistant producer, and anchor at Wilkes’ student run television station, which is viewed by several thousand residents in the greater Wilkes-Barre area.
While working on the national desk of The Washington Times, Andrew completed several projects, including one piece on the bi-partisan movement Unity ’08. Politics is a key area of interest for Andrew.
At USA TODAY’s Washington Bureau Andrew had the opportunity to work extensively for On Politics, USA TODAY’s political blog, while writing several pieces for the print publication. Andrew built off of his previous experience on the national desk of USA TODAY where he wrote about the flooding in the Midwest, the Amerithrax investigation, Sen. Clinton’s concession speech, the anniversary of the Minnesota bridge collapse, and many trends affecting the nation such as high gas prices.
Andrew is currently a freelancer for USA TODAY while finishing his studies in Pennsylvania.
Andrew serves on the national board of directors for the Society of Professional Journalists, which is the largest broad based organization for journalists in the U.S. He was named the Arthur H. Barlow National Student Journalist of the Year in 2009 and awarded the Robert D.G. Lewis First Amendment Award in 2009.
