Andrew is an award-winning journalist at Thomson Reuters’s headquarters in New York City. He joined Reuters after working at its Washington bureau, where he covered the Affordable Care Act and the White House, as the 2011 Kaiser Media Fellow.
Andrew is a 2011 graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he was named “Student of the Year,” which is awarded to “a student whose energy and talent make him or her an example of a superior Columbia Journalism graduate.”
As a Toni Stabile Fellow, Andrew’s studies focused on investigative reporting at Columbia’s center for investigative journalism. He improved his international and business reporting skills through the program, which yielded two cross-border investigations. Andrew’s additional courses improved his computer assisted reporting, multimedia and social media skills.
Andrew is also a 2010 graduate of Wilkes University’s communication studies program, where he graduated with honors and was named a Tom Bigler Scholar for exemplifying the highest ethical standards in journalism. Andrew also earned several other awards during his undergraduate career, including the 2009 Robert D.G. Lewis First Amendment Award, the 2009 Arthur H. Barlow National Student Journalist of the Year Award and Wilkes’s Intern of the Year Award in 2010.
Andrew’s most substantial print experience comes from his three years as a contract writer for USA TODAY, the nation’s largest newspaper. In addition to his freelance work, Andrew served as a national desk intern in 2008 and a Washington bureau intern in 2009. He spent the summer of 2007 as an intern for the national desk of The Washington Times while completing the Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown University.
In broadcast, Andrew completed several internships at WBRE-TV, northeastern Pennsylvania’s NBC affiliate. His broadcast experience also comes from four years at Wilkes’s Thomas P. Shelburne Telecommunications Center, which broadcasts to thousands of residents throughout northeastern Pennsylvania.
Andrew also served in several roles on The Beacon, Wilkes’s award-winning student newspaper. He oversaw the paper’s online redesign and relaunch during his time as managing editor and editor-in-chief.
Altogether, Andrew has covered some of the biggest stories of the past five years. His clips include coverage of President Barack Obama, the U.S. Congress, visits by foreign heads of state, marches on Washington, federal legislation, national trends, earmarks, NASA, investigative articles and breaking news.
He’s also been a leader in the profession of journalism by serving on the national board of directors for the Society of Professional Journalists, the largest broad based organization for journalists in the U.S.
